Ideas To Help Those In Financial Need

Posted on July 26 2009 by Pat Killingsworth | 524 views

Friday’s post about the new program to help pay transportation fees for myeloma patients in need has inspired me to add a comprehensive list of contact information for organizations with grants and programs available to multiple myeloma patients when I update my book, Living with Multiple Myeloma, this fall. I have an extensive list started, but any leads that might help and should be included and would be appreciated! Your thoughts?

I think that is a great idea. Our rural community sponsors a "Cancer Van" which will drive patients to their cancer treatments… a 3 hour plus drive. This is totally funded by donations. We haven't been able to use it because it doesn't go to our clinic, but I am hoping to contact them and see if they could add it. I think there are many programs out there to help cancer patients and maybe other communities could organize similar programs.

It would be worth it to me to donate to the Van every time we used it because at least my husband could get a ride in the event I couldn't take him to his appointment.

Your comment reminds me not to forget the power and importance of localized aid programs. I will explore this angle at length. Thanks so much! Pat
