The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) features an excellent, in-depth Website listing and explaining treatment options for myeloma patients. One piece of advice: Every newly diagnosed myeloma patient that may be a stem cell transplant candidate now, or in the future, should make arrangements to have their stem cells harvested. This accomplishes two things. First, the stem cells are available for future transplant(s). Second, once the cells are harvested, your oncologist has a broader range of treatment options available, because some types of treatments are not recommended for transplant candidates. The MMRF site uses charts and graphs to clearly explain why. Simply click on the grey “treatment options” link up above to get the details.
