Now That ASCO Is Over, Companies Start Releasing News About Failed Multiple Myeloma Studies

I don’t think it is a coincidence that news about this failed study was released post-ASCO.  Who wants to discuss failure in front of 100,000 clinicians, cancer docs and researchers!  Expect more announcements like this in the weeks and months to come:

The Associated Press June 9, 2010
Human Genome Sciences says cancer drug fails study

ROCKVILLE, Md.

Human Genome Sciences’s potential cancer drug mapatumumab failed in a midstage study, the company said Wednesday.

There was no difference in disease response or progression-free survival rates between patients receiving the drug for multiple myeloma and the control group, the company said.

Human Genome Sciences Inc. said it expects to report full results from the study at a scientific meeting later in 2010.

Try to remember–you can’t succeed unless you try and fail–a lot!  With so much promising myeloma news lately, some studies that don’t work-out should be expected.

Feel good, keep smiling and let’s hope those researchers keep trying!  Pat
