Fellow multiple myeloma patient and blogger Nick van Dyk, from California, gave me a great “shout out” on his most recent blog post. Nick is undergoing a very aggressive form of anti-myeloma treatment known as Total Therapy. He does a good job comparing and contrasting the different therapy paths we have each taken the past few years. No one, including us, is sure if one path is any better or more effective than the other. I often kid with Nick about how I guess we won’t know until one of us outlives the other!
Nick is very passionate about his writing. Like our therapy choices, our styles differ here, too. Nick likes to write very long, technical, focused and detailed posts—he writes once or twice a week. I write shorter articles daily, with links to a wide variety of multiple myeloma related topics.
Yet despite many differences of style and substance, Nick and I have become dear friends. We may not always agree, but we can almost always understand the other’s point of view. If only politicians and our polarized electorate could do the same!
