A myeloma patient’s story

Posted on March 18 2012 by Pat Killingsworth | 1,755 views

Nashville’s Fox 13 reporter, Lauren Johnson, filed this report about local multiple myeloma patient Jana Stressel yesterday.

The human interest story appealed to me in it’s simplicity.  It’ short and to the point, eventually describing what’s involved with her undergoing an allo stem transplant, using her brothers stem cells…

Stem Cell Transplant Offers New Lease on Life:

A good public awareness piece.  I wish her luck!

Feel good and keep smiling!  Pat

Jana looks great and has a great attitude. Lets hope her Brother’s Cells kick some Myeloma butt!

Just wanted to comment on your question on the MyelomaNews site if the Warning Label on Revlimid with regard to Secondary Cancers is necessary. I say yes. I do not think patients are fully made aware of the side effects that long term use of these drugs can have on them. I think Myeloma Docs should have to give their patients something in writing that the Doctors are not fully aware of all of the mechanisms of action of Revlimid and therefore do not know what all the long term side effects are. They have patients sign letters like that before Transplants, they should be honest and tell patients they are not fully aware of what long term use of these drugs have on their health either.

Hard to argue with that, Mark! I think a broader discussion about the dangers of living with a chronically depressed immune system should also be addressed…
